Hatai Silom: Bangkok’s New Lantern-Inspired Landmark Takes Shape

Hatai Silom is starting to take shape above the construction walls, giving Bangkok a first real glimpse of what could become one of Silom’s most distinctive new landmarks.

Located on the former Narai Hotel site on Silom Road, Hatai is a major mixed-use development by Narai Hospitality Group. The project is designed to bring together hospitality, retail, wellness, dining and public spaces in one connected destination.

A New Heart for Silom

The name “Hatai” means “heart” in Thai, reflecting the project’s ambition to become a new heart of Silom and a meaningful destination in central Bangkok.

Rather than simply replacing the old Narai Hotel, Hatai aims to reinterpret the site’s history for a new generation, blending Thai heritage, contemporary design and everyday urban life.

Designed by Heatherwick Studio

Hatai is designed by Heatherwick Studio, the internationally renowned design studio led by Thomas Heatherwick. It is also Heatherwick Studio’s first project in Thailand.

The architecture is inspired by traditional Thai lanterns, symbols of light, celebration and warmth. This idea is translated into a contemporary building form that should give Silom a softer, more memorable skyline.

Hotels, Retail and Public Space

Hatai will feature two hotels: Six Senses Bangkok and the reimagined Narai Hotel, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.

The project will also include retail, dining, wellness, cultural areas and public spaces designed to bring people back to street level. According to Heatherwick Studio, Hatai will include around 5,200 sq.m. of new public space, including green areas and elevated walkways.
