AWC Plans New Plaza Athénée Riverside Hotel on the Chao Phraya

AWC is expanding its Riverside Journey with a new THB 2.9 billion ultra-luxury Plaza Athénée hotel on the Chao Phraya River, planned with 146 rooms and an opening target in 2028.

AWC is moving forward again on the Chao Phraya River, adding another major ultra-luxury hotel to its growing riverside portfolio.

The latest project is a new riverside hotel currently known as River Garden, planned to operate under the Plaza Athénée brand. Located in one of the most strategic areas along the Chao Phraya River, the project will become part of AWC’s wider “AWC Riverside Journey.”

A THB 2.9 Billion Ultra-Luxury Hotel

According to AWC, the new hotel will represent an investment of approximately THB 2.9 billion.

The 18-storey property is planned with 146 rooms and more than 20,000 sq.m. of gross floor area. It is expected to bring together luxury hospitality, wellness, dining and lifestyle experiences, with an opening target in 2028.

Part of AWC Riverside Journey

This project is not being developed as a standalone hotel. It is part of AWC Riverside Journey, a larger vision connecting 11 AWC lifestyle destinations along the Chao Phraya River.

These destinations include Asiatique The Riverfront, MONA Bangkok, the planned cross-river cable car, The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok, The Riverside, Song Wat, Yaowarat and Woeng Nakorn Kasem.

Together, they show how AWC is building a connected riverfront ecosystem rather than individual projects.

Why This Location Matters

The Chao Phraya River is becoming one of Bangkok’s most competitive luxury hospitality corridors.

With global hotel brands, cultural landmarks, riverside retail, art destinations and new infrastructure, this part of Bangkok is moving toward a more international tourism and lifestyle positioning.

For AWC, adding another Plaza Athénée-branded destination strengthens its ability to create a continuous luxury journey along the river.

Investment Perspective

From a real estate perspective, this is another strong signal for Bangkok’s riverside market.

When a developer controls multiple strategic assets along the same river corridor, the value is not only in each building, but in the network they create together. Hotels, cultural attractions, restaurants, retail and transport links can reinforce one another and raise the long-term value of the whole area.

Conclusion

AWC’s new Plaza Athénée riverside hotel is another important step in the transformation of the Chao Phraya River.

With a THB 2.9 billion investment, 146 planned rooms, ultra-luxury hospitality positioning and integration into AWC Riverside Journey, the project could become a key part of Bangkok’s next world-class riverfront chapter.
